the state of being calm, peaceful, and untroubled.

In the balancing act of life, it’s important to maintain your own happiness, to find serenity in the midst of the negativity that often swirls around you.
Seems like it should be fairly easy: listen your heart, be kind to others, and happiness should follow. Simple, right? But no one is an island, and we’re so very impacted by others’ currents. No matter how “up” you tend to be, when someone around you (especially someone you care about) is down, your energetic barometer sinks, too.
What can you do about this? I find that meditation helps. If my happiness takes a hit, I find a place to sit quietly and release the negativity that has entered my field. I focus on my heart, on the loving energy there, and feel its warmth blossom until it fills my energy body. It only takes a few minutes, but never fails to lift me up.
To take it further, you can try EFT tapping to release the negativity from your field. This modality involves gently tapping on meridian endpoints. For more information, see The Tapping Solution. I’ve had wonderful results using this technique.
To take it even further, you can try cutting cords to the person (or group) who brings you down. This doesn’t mean you sever all contact with them; it simply disrupts the flow of unhealthy energy between you. I have a cord cutting process that has helped me a lot; you can find it here.
Remind yourself that, although you care about someone, their negativity is theirs; it’s not up to you to fix them (or their life). Attempting to do so will only frustrate you, as well as interfering with whatever life lesson they are working through. It’s okay to be there for them, if you so choose, but don’t allow their negative energy to weigh you down. Releasing that which doesn’t belong to you can bring a feeling of buoyancy to your field, allowing you to float on a wave of serenity.
